THE PRESERVE ......Green Natural Burial

Turning to the rich history of the rural cemeteries of the 19th century, the architects of Woodland Memorial Park have preserved the historic elements of a time when cemeteries became, not only places of mourning, but also places for those wanting to experience the peacefulness and serenity of a beautiful park.

Woodland Memorial Park provides families with exceptional settings for the permanent memorials of their loved ones. With acres of rolling green lawns, majestic trees, it is a perfect place for families to return, year after year, in remembrance and honor.

Sometimes one family member wants to be buried and another wishes to be cremated, yet they want to be together. Because we know this to be a common wish, Woodland makes it simple for families. We can easily arrange for a common burial of both your loved ones in the same burial plot.

We would be honored to guide you through the cemetery grounds, explore your perspectives, and make suggestions. Ultimately, the decision is in your hands; but our expertise can certainly guide you.

What is Green / Natural Burial ?

Green Burial, also referred to as natural burial, is an alternative to conventional interment.  It allows you or your loved one to return to the earth naturally.  With Green Burial,  the body is prepared without the use of toxic embalming chemicals.  The body is then interred or buried in a natural setting using materials that are biodegradable and have minimal impact on the environment.

Those who choose Green Burial as an alternative have two options as it pertains to body preparation   One option is that you may elect to not have the body prepared with chemical preservatives such as during a traditional embalming process.  For those who wish to be embalmed, there is a formaldehyde-free embalming option that will not harm the earth in any way and will allow the body to return to the earth naturally.  The body is buried in a "Green" burial container which come in a variety of materials. However, burial containers (shroud, urn or casket) that may be used must be comprised of natural, plant-based, earthen materials such as bamboo, pine or willow.  The containers do not contain chemicals and are fully biodegradable.  The use of concrete liners is not permissible for Green Burial.  Our Green Burial packages provide everything necessary for a graveside burial.

It is the combined policy of the green funeral and burial services that individuals and families who choose to engage with our services are encouraged to participate in the preparation of digging the grave, leading the processional, carrying the deceased, lowering the body into the grave, putting the dirt back and planting a native tree or flower.

Green Burial helps to preserve the land in its most natural state. It promotes land preservation and habitat restoration.
